A COURT order to evict a group of travellers who have spent more than a week on land near Colchester’s community stadium could be secured this morning.
The group of six caravans and more than 30 people are believed to have broken through fencing to gain access to a field next to the Weston Homes Community Stadium on Sunday, September 21.
Last Wednesday morning, the Essex Countywide Traveller Unit issued them a Direction to Leave notice, telling them they must move on by 11am tomorrow.
But the legal notice has so far been ignored.
This morning, the Essex County Council unit is to apply to Chelmsford Magistrates Court for a second order which will give them the power to evict the group.
If they have not moved on, then the authority can evict them.
