COLCHESTER United fans are among the best behaved in the country – and that’s official.

Not a single fan was arrested at an away game, and only one supporter fell foul of the law at the Weston Homes Community Stadium last season, according to figures released by the Home Office.

The arrest rate is the second lowest out of the 24 teams in League One – only Milton Keynes Dons, with no arrests, had a better record.

A Colchester United spokesman said: “Obviously the fans have been really good and we have worked hard to create an environment where people feel they can enjoy their football.

“Figures like this will help push incentives like our under-11s for free offer, because families will feel they can come here, be safe, and have a good time.”

In March, travelling Colchester United fans were accused of ripping out seats at Leyton Orient’s Brisbane Road stadium.

Police warned that culprits would be prosecuted if they were identified, but no further action in relation to the incident has been reported.

The Home Office statistics also show just one Colchester United supporter is currently subject to a banning order which prevents them attending matches. The order was imposed prior to the start of the 2013/14 season.

In League One, 283 fans were arrested at matches during the campaign.

Essex rivals Southend United had ten fans arrested last season – three at home matches and seven at away fixtures.
