A WATER company has apologised after a burst water main left a busy road closed and customers without water.

The nine-inch water main, at the junction of Orchid Close and St John’s Road, burst on Thursday evening.

Technicians from Veolia Water were called to the scene at 9pm to isolate the pipe and carry out repairs.

A spokesman for the company said: “Due to the escape of water the road was temporarily closed, but following isolation of the affected main it was possible to reopen the road.

“An interim repair was carried out overnight to enable water supplies to be returned, but a permanent repair was needed and this was completed the following morning.

“We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused whilst our technicians carried out these vital repairs and we would like to thank our customers for their patience.”

The water supply was returned to normal by 12noon on Friday.
