Sprightly woman celebrates 104th birthday
5:00pm Saturday 23rd June 2012 in Clacton, Frinton & Walton
A FIGHTING fit Frinton woman has celebrated her 104th birthday in style.
Gladys Harvey has spent most of her life in the area after moving to Clacton as an infant during the First World War.
Her father was Percival King, who was heavily involved in the area had two spells as chairman of the council.
He now has a Clacton housing estate named after him.
Gladys has now celebrated her 104th birthday in Frinton, where she still lives alone.
Her niece Gillian Douglas says Gladys still lives life to the full, despite her age.
She said: “Gladys is just fabulous.
“She was a keen golfer, and played well into her 90s.
“She eventually had to give it up ten years ago, but she is still an honorary member of the golf club.
“Not many people even make it to that age, but she is still fantastic."
Gladys celebrated her birthday with a special dinner at Frinton Golf Club with her family.
