A SAILING club cafe and bar has re-opened for members.
The Brightlingsea Watersports and Yacht Club, on Waterside, had been unable to supply food after a dispute with the original caterers hired to run the bar and kitchen.
Protestors had demonstrated outside the club calling for the reinstatement of the caterers, but the club’s directors ended their contract and have now appointed Michael Kirkpatrick to oversee the facilities.
The club is based at the Essex University Sailing Club and was formed by a joint charitable trust between the club and the university.
An Essex University spokesman said: “Michael Kirkpatrick has a wealth of catering experience and is a huge sailing enthusiast, having served in the Royal Navy for 25 years, leaving as a Petty Officer Catering Manager. He has organised events all over the world and overseen hospitality for royalty and VIPs.
“Food will be on offer at lunch and in the evening, with early morning breakfasts also available for fishing groups, working parties and those waiting for the tide.
“Information about opening times and services can be found on the club website at bwyc.co.uk.”
