Free recycling bins on offer

RESIDENTS can apply for a free compost bin to let them recycle food and garden waste.

Households in St Osyth, Brightlingsea, Thorrington, Arlesford, Great Bentley, Elmstead Market and Great Bromley can claim one of the bins.

There are 2,500 bins being given away by Essex County Council on a first come first served basis.

To apply for one of the bins people need to email their name, address and contact number to contact.essex@essex.gov.uk or call 0845 603 7625 before February 25.

Successful applicants will be given a time and date to pick their bin up from Martins Farm Country Park in St Osyth, while alternative collection points will be investigated if needed.

Come on everyone this is ECC not TDC. They are trying to offer us a Compost bin because they closed the tip down. I don't think 2500 bins is one per household.....What about the timber, bottles, tins, car oil I used to take there to be recycled ?. Gonna be interesting once the summer season kicks in how much more fly tipping takes place. Has anyone asked the caravan parks to notify all their residents ? Can remember chatting to a member of staff at the tip once and he apologised for the queue but told me it was due to the number of mobile home owners who bring their waste to dump every weekend because they can't be bothered to either sort it or drive to their tips in greater London..

All very well but what about the material that cannot be disposed of in a compost bin?

A cheap political gimmick just like Scoggins praise for the costly garden waste service.

If this is the best that the Tory controlled TDC and ECC can do then lets hope that they all resign soon.

Its ok having new glitzy bins Happy but they are going to collect every other week (rather than weekly at present), and will the bin men place them close to your door or will you have to go running down the road to retrieve them like I presently do with the paper bin ?? My household usually produces 1-2 bags of refuse (including food waste) per week but around 4 large bags of recycling a week. Just hope the bins are big enough otherwise the refuse sack beckons for that which I cannot fit in or don't want to store for a couple of weeks.

I hear you scoot, I really do.
since the inception of our green recycling boxes, I have done my best in recycling.
I now have 2 green boxes and thought I done quite well.
But it now seems the new scheme highlites specific "wants" in the recycling boxes, not what our "wants" are maybe.
My 2 boxes are emptied right outside our property, as does everyone elses are, as the generally very good refuse men walk our streets with large green wheely bins collecting recycling first, then return later in the day for refuse only.
I will not mention why the huge HGV refuse vehicles no longer drive our "avenues" but destroyed roads feature!
Like you Scoot, we used to put out more than one fully filled black sack each week, but by carefull segregation of recycling, the black bag waste did reduce.

I just now look with trepidation at the rainbow array of boxes we will recieve before much longer.

If all fails, Rush Green tip is quite close....
I thought that I would cut and paste for a change
My 2 boxes are emptied right outside our property", there must be quite a pile of rubbish outside your shed then Ian LOL
