Accused tells jury 'I did not rape woman'

A MAN has told a jury he did not rape a woman in a Clacton hotel room.

Timothy Rukundo told a jury he was in bed with the woman and her friend when he got a tap on the shoulder from the alleged victim.

The sex that followed had been with the woman's consent, Rukundo told Chelmsford Crown Court.

The prosecution has alleged the 26-year-old raped the woman while she was asleep in a room at the town's Travel Lodge hotel in the early hours of March 17 last year.

Rukundo, of Culvers Retreat, Carshalton, Surrey, denies rape.

•The trial continues.
