A BUILDER had to be rescued by firefighters after getting stuck on a roof.
The man, aged in his 30s, had climbed a ladder on to the roof of a house in Percival Road, Walton, to carry out work on Saturday afternoon.
But firefighters say he lost his nerve when he tried to get back down.
Crews from Frinton and Colchester were called to the scene and used an aerial ladder platform to safely bring down the builder by 4pm.
Leading firefighter Stephen Adamson at Colchester Fire Station said conditions were very windy, and the man had ended up with bird droppings over his lower legs.
“There was a lot of bird excrement and he didn’t fancy coming down with it all over his feet,” he said.
“We got him down within five minutes of being there.
“He did hug us a few times and shake our hands. I think relief was the word.”
Mr Adamson said others could learn from the man’s ordeal.
“Sometimes you get yourself into these situations where it’s all right getting in to it, and then a little way in, you realise it is not such a good idea,” he said.
