TWO elderly people were taken to hospital after their car collided with a telegraph pole on Friday afternoon.
The pair were in a red Ford Fiesta when the accident happened in Abbey Street, Thorpe, at the junction with Station Road.
Katie Poel at the ambulance service said a call was received at 2.15pm and a rapid response vehicle and an ambulance were sent.
Both of the car's occupants were taken to Colchester hospital, but it was not believed their injuries were serious.
The pole was carrying lines for both BT and EDF energy. It was not known if the telephone service was affected.
EDF spokesman Clare Phillips said engineers working to make the lines safe were expected to disrupt power to households in the area for a short period of time, and one home had reported a power cut immediately after the crash.
Abbey Road was temporarily closed at the junction with Station Road, while emergency services dealt with the crash.
