VETERAN councillor Roy Smith's funeral service will take place at Jaywick Methodist Church later this month.

The former Tendring Council chairman died in hospital on January 29 after suffering a suspected heart attack.

Friends and colleagues have paid heartfelt tributes to Mr Smith.

The funeral will take place at 11am on February 26 followed by a private burial service for family and close friends at Burrs Road cemetery.

Mr Smith's family has requested family flowers only. Donations can be made to the charities he supported as council chairman - Essex Air Ambulance, Clacton Family Support and Tendring Young Persons Epilepsy Support. They can be sent to Leslie Barlow at 98 Station Road, Clacton, CO15 6AA.
