A MONSTER truck carrying tonnes of waste ended up on its side in a field after straying on to a grass verge.

The 32-tonne, eight-wheel lorry was on Pork Lane, at Great Holland, when it overturned on Thursday at about 2pm.

Luckily the driver, who works for Clacton-based County Skips, was unhurt in the accident.

County Skips boss Matt Partridge said: "He's fine – he didn't suffer any injuries.

"He had his seatbelt on so he was just stuck in his seat."

The lorry was transporting more than six tonnes of waste to a landfill site in Colchester when it tipped over.

Mr Partridge said: "It was the slightest of things. He gave way to someone because it's a narrow road, but we have to use it because the lorry is too high for the bridge at Kirby.

"But the side of the road was a bit soft and it tipped over. Before he knew it, it was on its side."

He added: "It's not been the best of days for us, but at least no one was hurt – that's the main thing."
