A BUMPER turn-out saw a record number of entries at this year's Walton Classic Car Show.

Thousands of petrol-heads flocked to Bath House Meadow for the automobile spectacular on Sunday.

Gleaming vehicles from the across the region descended on the town for what is one of the biggest events in Walton's calendar.

Walton Forum's Maria Eastwood said: "It was amazing. It was really, really good and the show was packed right up until 2.30pm when it started to rain, which was a real shame.

"There was a record number of cars there and a record number of visitors."

A competition to strip down two cars and turn them into bangers was in danger of being called off after one of the teams failed to show.

Maria said: "We rang the fire brigade up to said is there any chance they could come down and cut a car up instead.

"Luckily we managed to put another team together but the fire brigade came down anyway so we got another car for them to cut up which caused a bit of a spectacle – the kids loved it."

She added; "We were full all day from 10am until it started to rain.

"There was just over 300 cars – some of them were really nice.

"Last year we had 3,000 to 4,000 visitors and we were definitely much busier than that."
