AIRSHOW organisers have announced further flights for this year's high-flying event in Clacton.

The latest two display teams to sign up for this year’s Clacton Airshow are the Tigers Parachute team and the Catalina.

They will be appearing in the skies above Clacton on August 24 and 25.

The ever-popular Tigers are the flagship for the Princess of Wales’ Royal Regiment, the senior English Infantry Regiment of the line.

They were formed in 1986 and originally provided with the name of The Flying Dragons.

The team provides additional support to the Army with an active role in recruitment and image promotion and is made up of volunteers from various battalions of the regiment.

The Catalina G-PBYA will be making its return to the airshow.

It is owned by Plane Sailing which owes its continued existence to the need for aerial fire fighting aircraft.

Its military career as a Royal Canadian Air Force Canso A included wartime usage with 9 (BR) Squadron and a post-war spell with the famous 413 Tusker Squadron which has operated Catalina flying boats within the Royal Air Force in Scotland and the Indian Ocean during the Second World War.

She is now based at Duxford where she has been since 2004 and has not appeared at Clacton for several years now.

These two will join the world famous Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team the Red Arrows, who will also be doubling up at Clacton again this year.

Nigel Brown, Tendring Council’s communications manager, said the plans are taking shape for this year's show.

“We are delighted that we once again have TSA Consulting on board booking up the display teams and preparing the schedule over the two days,” he said.

“We have a long-running association with the company who never fail to provide a spectacular event for all our residents and visitors.

“Night flights are coming back on August 24 - having been such a huge success for the first time last year - and we hope to be announcing more details about that very soon.”
