A RAILWAY worker is trying to bring some sunshine into the world by carrying out little acts of random kindness.

Jared Richter, 26, got fed-up with endless bad news so decided to try help brighten up people's lives.

The Holland-on-Sea man has now launched his 'Make a Stranger Smile' campaign

He hopes to inspire others to follow in his footsteps and post pictures of their good deeds on his Facebook page - JR'S Positive Vibes.

"I want to make people smile and be happier and more positive about everything," said the Greater Anglia train dispatcher.

"I just want to make a random person happy and see if it catches on.

"There are a lot of negative things in the world at the moment. I just thought it would make a change to go out and do something positive."

His first act of kindness was to present a large bunch of flowers to Jane McGarry, who works at Boutique Paint Station in Dovercourt.

"It was brilliant," said Jared.

"It was totally out of the blue and it was nice to see her smile.

"She was really shocked that I'd done it but I got a picture of her and uploaded it to my page and the response from people has been wonderful."

A surprised Jane said: "I'd just come back from doing a job and was putting things away when he walked through the door with these flowers.

"It took a moment to realise what he was doing. I thought he was going to propose but that's probably just wishful thinking.

"It was a lovely gesture and he's doing a really good thing. I there were more people like him the world would be a better place."

Jared decided he needed to turn his life around after a relationship broke up.

"It didn't end well and I wasn't working," he said.

"I had low self-esteem and was at rock bottom.

"Then I started to think to myself I can't stay like this - I need to give myself a kick up the backside,

"Then I got my job at the railway and started to fell a lot more positive about things.

"In the end I realised I needed to stop looking at what I don't have and be grateful for what I do have - my family, my good friends and having a roof over my head.

"It's taken a while but I've turned my life around and it's all because I've got a positive mindset now.

"I just want to be a nice person and make people smile."
