POPULAR motorcyclist Ronnie Sheehan died at the scene of a crash from multiple injuries, an inquest heard.

Essex Coroner Caroline Beasley-Murray opened the inquest into the death of the 36-year-old at Essex Coroner's Court earlier today.

Coroner's officer Ria Hill explained Mr Sheehan was driving his motorbike along Marine Parade East in Clacton just before 7.55pm on Wednesday, March 22 when he was involved in a crash.

She said: "Police were called to the scene and Ronnie Sheehan was pronounced dead at the scene."

A post mortem examination was carried out and found he died of polytrauma and a road traffic collision.

A polytrauma is when someone has been subjected to multiple traumatic injuries.

Mrs Beasley-Murray said: "I shall not release the body.

"I will require a copy of the post mortem examination, toxicology report and police reports."

Police were initially called with reports a Kawasaki motorbike and a Vauxhall van had collided.

A 37-year-old man from Clacton arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving has been released on bail until Friday, June 30.
