A PRIMARY school where pupils are performing at more than 20 per cent above the national standard in reading, writing and maths has been rewarded for its achievements.

Ravens Academy, in Clacton, part of the Academy Transformation Trust, has received an Educational Outcomes Award from the Schools, Students and Teachers network.

Data shows that by key stage two, 76 per cent of pupils aged seven to 11 have met the expected standard in those three subjects.

The national average is 53 per cent, putting it among the top 20 per cent in the UK.

Principal Karen Hammond, who was named Essex Primary Headteacher of the Year 2016, said: “I’m so proud the significant achievement made by the children and staff at Ravens Academy has been recognised by this award.

“Our outstanding results reflect the progress made at the academy so far and inspire future success as we continue to grow.

“We constantly strive for excellence and this award represents one of the ways in which we help pupils reach their full potential, and be the best they can be.”

Ravens joined the Academy Transformation Trust in September 2013.

Since then, the academy has experienced a large increase in the number of pupils on the school roll.

The school has also moved out of requiring special measures to having a ‘good’ Ofsted rating, which has led to better results for pupils.

Ian Cleland, chief executive officer at Academy Transformation Trust, added: “We’re all proud of Ravens Academy and delighted at this continued success. Well done.”
