THE family of a Manchester United fanatic who died following a tragic accident has received a heartfelt letter from the club’s manager Jose Mourinho.

Father-of-four David Green, 32, was working on the Summers Park housing development in Cox’s Hill, Lawford, when his dumper truck tipped over on October 3.

David, who lived in Hazel Crescent, Little Clacton, named his eldest sons in honour of his beloved Red Devils - Harvey Rio after Rio Ferdinand and Trafford after the club’s Old Trafford ground.

In a letter to David’s widow Jade, United manager Jose Mourinho wrote: “I have been informed, and was deeply saddened to hear, that your husband David recently passed away in tragic circumstances.

“On behalf of the staff and players at Manchester United, please accept our heartfelt condolences to you and your children Harvey Rio, Trafford, Bentley and Skyla-Jade, including family and friends, on the loss of your loved one.

“Hold tight to memories for comfort and may the love and support of those around you help you through the days ahead.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with you in this time of sorrow.”

David’s father-in-law Steve Mason said: “David was an avid Manchester United fan and it was really nice that Jose Mourinho wrote a letter to Jade.

“We don’t know who contacted the club, but the letter was personally signed by Mourinho and all the children are mentioned by name - it’s lovely that they put that sort of effort in.”

Mr Mason added that his son-in-law will be laid to rest in a red and white coffin that features the team’s badge.

He added: “When the accident happened it was a shock for everyone - and at David’s age with four children it is especially tragic.“We are getting through it the best we can. We have a big family and there is a lot of support for Jade.”

A funeral service will be held at St Andrew’s Church, Weeley, on November 4 at noon, to which people are asked to wear red – with minimal black.

Following the service, a private burial will take place at St James’ Church, Little Clacton, for family and very close friends.

A celebration of David’s life will be held at the Kingscliff Hotel, Holland-on-Sea, following the service.

Family flowers only are requested, but those wishing to make a donation to David’s family can via Roy Gwinnell Funeral Directors of Ipswich Road, Colchester.

An inquest into David’s death has been scheduled for March 6.
