VULNERABLE residents in Clacton have been kitted out with free thermal clothing and hot water bottles to keep them warm this winter.

The town's first Warmer Homes event was staged by Community Voluntary Services Tendring at its base in Rosemary Road.

Almost 350 items to help people keep out the chill were handed out, including hot water bottles, thermal clothing and blankets, radiator foil, hats, scarves, gloves and thick socks.

There was also advice on how to stay warm.

Voluntary services chair Brenda Ellis said: “It was a great community event and we spoke to a large number of people – many with long term conditions.

“The feeling around the day was very positive and we had some good feedback. We have certainly been able to put people on the right track to staying warm, happy and healthy this winter.”

The event was supported by the district and county council.

Help in keeping warm continues to be available from Imperial House on weekdays.
