FIREFIGHTERS were called to Frinton last night after a chimney fire.

Two crews from Frinton attended the blaze in Upper Fourth Avenue after 9pm last night.

When crews arrived, they reported the whole of the ground floor was completely filled with smoke.

Firefighters had extinguished the fire by 9.38pm.

Essex County Fire and Rescue have issued a warning about chimney fires following the incident.

Sub Officer Nick Singleton from Frinton Fire Station said: “Incidents like this show how important it is for everyone who has a real fire to get their chimney cleaned every year.

“It is best to get it cleaned at this time of year, before you have your first fire.

“A build-up of soot and as can ignite in the chimney can easily catch fire. Chimney fires are not only dangerous but can cause a great deal of damage.”
