GHOSTS, ghouls and zombies walked the streets of Clacton in what might be called a skeleton protest.

Tendring Pensioners’ Action Group (TenPag) staged the event in the town centre on Saturday to mark International Older People’s Day.

The group, which has 50 local members, said the protest was to highlight what it calls “the severe crisis in social care.”

“We want substantial improvements and the introduction of a National Health and Care service funded through taxation,” said chairman Mike Le Cornu.

“Clacton had to welcome zombies marching the streets. We had a good reception,” he said.

“TenPag insists that carers must be properly trained and paid. The 15minutes time limit should be abolished and replaced by at least 30 minutes.

“Services should be more rigorously monitored, inspected and regulated and the National Pensioners’ Convention Dignity Code should be enshrined into legislation,” he added.

Tenpag meets every third Wednesday each month at St Barts Church Hall, Frinton Road, Holland-on-Sea.
