Frinton Cricket Club has bowled over planners with their scheme for a new building at their Ashlyn Road Ground.

Frinton CC, who play in the East Anglian Premier League, want to put up a new structure which will be linked to the existing pavilion.

The aim is to provide home and away changing rooms; shower and toilets; umpires changing rooms and showers and a new kitchen.

An existing tea hut which is on the western boundary of the ground will be demolished.

The design will be an agricultural building using traditional stained boarding to the walls and a clay red tile roof.

The site of the club, which has operated since 1909, is a protected public open space, but planners felt the building would not harm the surroundings.

Tendring Council had previously backed plans for a much-larger scheme in 2014 but the financial support it needed did not materialise.

Now, the club is pushing ahead with a scheme it first promoted in 2013, which is estimated to cost £75,000 and will be funded by the Cricket Foundation Trust.

Work is due to start in September with completion next March, in time for the 2017 season.

Treasurer Chris Armstrong praised local councillors, especially Nick Turner, and the town council for their support, adding the scheme received no objections.

“Frinton Cricket Club is a very important part of the community, with nearly 500 members. We have just served 1,000 lunches as part of Frinton Cricket Week. The club is proving more and more popular,” he added.
