A MUM has described the terrifying moment her son almost drowned in a caravan park pool.

Kian Macdonald, two, came close to death when he slipped from his inflatable life ring in the pool at Seawick Holiday Park in St Osyth.

He had been floating with the inflatable next to mum Jade Green when he fell into the water.

Jade tried to grab him but she struggled through the mass of people.

She feared the worst when Kian stopped flailing and lay still in the water, floating face down.

Jade said: “I could see him gasping for air and flapping his arms. It was absolutely terrifying.

“I tried to get to him but there were so many people in the pool I couldn’t reach him.

“I thought he was dead. I’ve never been so scared.”

A member of the public got to Kian first and pulled him out of the water.

Once at the side of the pool the youngster coughed up water.

The family was visiting the area, where Jade’s grandparents live, for a holiday from London.

The mum-of-two criticised the lifeguard on duty and park bosses for their response to the incident.

Jade said: “The lifeguard wasn’t watching. I’ve complained to the park manager but I didn’t feel like they were taking it seriously.

“I asked them to review the CCTV footage from the cameras overlooking the pool but they said the cameras had never worked."

Jade has submitted a formal complaint to Park Holidays UK, which runs the site.

A Park Holidays spokesman said: “It appears another guest was able to attend to the youngster without the need for intervention from our lifeguard.

“In any waters, young children should always stay within the immediate reach of the responsible adult.”
