A NAKED karaoke and barbecue at a Clacton pub has been axed ... because of safety fears.

The party was meant to follow the annual World Naked Bike Ride through the town on July 23.

But there were fears that doing the full monty might not go down well regular punters at Hope's Bar, in Old Road.

The event was cancelled after talks between the police, council licensing bosses and the pub.

Tendring police commander Chief Insp Russ said: “It was quite clear from our discussion with the licence holder and his tenant that they both had real concerns about how they could reasonably ensure the safety and protection of everyone attending this proposed public naked karaoke and barbeque event at Hope’s Bar.

“They were concerned that their regular customers and their residential neighbours may well feel uncomfortable about such an event being held on the premises and we fully understand, respect and support their decision to cancel the naked karaoke and barbeque event entirely.”

Tendring Council licensing chairman Mark Cossens said: “I fully agree that public safety is paramount and overall that it is better for them to have taken the decision to cancel this event entirely rather than risk any potential public disorder on the day which could have diverted police and other enforcement agency resources away from where they are needed the most.”
