A SEA Cadet has jetted off on the adventure of a lifetime to the tropical island of Bermuda.

Jamie Palfrey, 16, is one of just four lucky Cadets from the UK to bag a place on the exchange programme.

“I cannot wait to get out there," said the Tendring Technology College pupil.

"We will be doing so much. We have trips to cultural places planned, as well as sailing and canoeing activities but I am most looking forward to snorkelling off the beach and trying all sorts of activities I do normally but in a totally different environment.

"It’s not every day you get to sail off a beach in Bermuda!”

Jamie had to pass a tough selection process to win his place on the exchange trip.

He hopes to join the Marines when he is 18.

Younger brothers Ben and Dennis are also Cadets, and mum Mandy helps out at the unit.

Jamie was "over the moon" at being chosen.

Unit spokesman Dave Massen said: "He was so excited when I saw him before he flew out."

Officer in charge Jerry Parkinson added: “It is a great honour for Jamie to represent Walton Sea Cadets. I am truly proud of what he has achieved and really excited for the opportunities he will have while out there."
