EU supporter Dan Casey wished Nigel Farage would come to Clacton every day.

The former Labour Party councillor said yesterday was the “best day ever” for his ‘Britain Stronger In’ stall held just yards away from the throng of pro-Farage ‘Brexiteers.’ He admits convincing Clacton has not been easy, claiming some abuse and threats on previous occasions.

But it was all smiles yesterday and the presence of the UKIP leader apparently led to some support for the beleaguered ‘Remainians.’ “We weren’t going to go but I thought why should we be run out of town? It was the most positive morning we had,” he said.

Dan said the killing of Labour MP Jo Cox coupled with the controversy over the Farage-launched ‘Hitler’ immigration poster had “not done a lot of good to him.”

“There’s no need for this type of thing,” he added.

The former councillor said Britain leaving the EU is a “massive gamble” and a town of just 2.5% ethnic minorities did not have the immigration problems UKIP claims.

“Our people won’t go and pick the crops. That is why the farmers have to get people from Europe,” he said.

Jobs need to be created by government and Clacton has never recovered since Butlins closed in 1983 with the loss of hundreds of jobs.

Though lamenting ‘Stronger In’ as a Labour-run affair locally, Dan recalled yesterday as happy with young kiddies finally wanting to wear their stickers.

“I wish Nigel Farage would come every day. We feel elated,” he added.
