A DOCTOR Who super-fan and his companion tied the knot in a spectacular ceremony filled with unique Whovian twists.

Most people spend their wedding day morning perfecting their vows or overcoming last-minute jitters.

But Doctor Who fanatic Paul Friday spent his morning hauling a pair of life-sized Daleks to the church, ready to form a guard of honour for his bride-to-be.

He married soulmate Rebecca in a stunning ceremony on Saturday with a series of unique twists based on the TV time-traveller.

The imposing Daleks – normally positioned outside the couple’s St Osyth home alongside a replica Tardis – took pride of place outside the church on the big day.

Paul and Rebecca were also joined at the altar by a K9 replica, while the groom and his two best men were wielding sonic screwdrivers and wearing special badges.

Unsurprisingly, the TV time-traveller theme was Paul’s idea, but Rebecca quickly embraced the plans.

She picked Tardis-blue dresses for her bridesmaids and agreed to leave the church to the electronic warbles of the Doctor Who theme tune.

Paul said: “It was such an amazing day. All of the little touches we did were just right.

“It wasn’t over the top, but it was just the perfect amount to give it a Whovian feel and theme.

“It wasn’t tacky, which can be the danger.

“It just made it unique and perfect.

“People said it was up there with the best weddings they have ever been to.”

Guests spent time outside the Church of St Peter and St Paul in St Osyth posing for pictures with the impressive props.

After the ceremony, the Daleks were transported to the reception to continue the theme.

Evening festivities included a projection show of the different Doctors, accompanied by the theme music – alongside the more traditional wedding fare.

Paul added: “Weddings are always great occasions, but it created an extra special atmosphere and made it a lot of fun. It caused a lot of interest.

“It went off brilliantly. We couldn’t have asked for any more and we are so happy.

“It was a great day and a beautiful step in our love story.

“We are still on a high.”
