A GROUP of girls from a Clacton school powered their way through a special assault course.

Female staff, pupils and family members from Clacton County High School dashed, jumped and scrambled through the 2km course, designed to encourage girls to get active.

They took on springboards, army nets and tyre runs, as well as a giant inflatable obstacle.

It is the second event run by Clacton County High School under the national Sport England This Girl Can scheme to get more girls into sport.

Executive principal Jeff Brindle said: “Irrespective of their ability, size, age or experience, everyone had a go at the various challenges.

“Everyone was smiling and laughing, and the girls really encouraged each other. It didn’t matter if they ran, jogged, walked or, at times, crawled along the ground, as long as they were enjoying being active.

“Our female sports leaders from across the years helped the event run like clockwork as they each took charge of an activity around the course.

“Full credit for the organisation of the event must go to PE teachers Emily Duffy and Laura Townsend, who worked tirelessly to ensure that each activity was accessible for all.”

The school raised £150 through entrance fees, which will be donated to Cervical Cancer Research.
