A YOUNGSTER with a rare disease can now zoom around his house and get involved in family life thanks to a huge home revamp.

Stanley Newman has a muscle-wasting condition, which is gradually weakening him – and could eventually prove deadly.

His family has been fundraising hard for more than a year to raise cash for vital alterations to their home in Skelmersdale Road, Clacton.

Work finally started earlier this year, and the Newmans have now been able to move back into their revamped home.

The layout has been altered to make it open-plan, while an extension and specially widened doorways and ramps have been installed.

Stanley also has a bedroom and wet room downstairs.

The finishes touches are now being added, with the total cost reaching about £60,000 – paid for by the tireless fundraising of friends and family.

Dad Rob said: “It’s been a long road to get to this point, but finally there’s a light at the end of the tunnel.

“We had to move out for a while as work was done.

“It has been a couple of years since we started fundraising for a special electric wheelchair for Stanley, then we realised the house would need to be completely changed.

“Now we finally have the space we need for Stanley to be able to manoeuvre and be involved in every part of family life.”

The family has also taken delivery of a new motorised wheelchair for Stanley, and he has been able to power around his revamped home.

Rob added: “It is a new beginning.

“If his brothers go out into the garden to play football, he can follow them using the ramp without calling for help.

“He can finally enjoy the freedom other four-year-olds have.

“It is the simple things like that which people take for granted, but it is special for us and makes all the difference in the world to Stanley.”
