A WALTON school celebrated a major birthday milestone in style with a huge celebration – and an even bigger cake.

This year marks the 110th birthday of two separate schools joining together to become Walton Primary in Standley Road.

Last Tuesday – the 110th day of the year – staff organised a series of maths-based activities, as well as an after school bouncy castle session to celebrate.

Teaching assistant and PTA member Rebecca Peters also created a giant cake, which was cut into more than 250 pieces for staff and students.

Headteacher Suzi Bliss said: “We have been building up to it for some time and telling the children about the history, and showing them what schoolchildren would have looked like and done 110 years ago.

“We had all sorts of things going on throughout the day, from children seeing how many skips they could do in 110 seconds to baking 110 cakes.

“Everybody had an amazing time. It’s a pretty significant milestone and everyone enjoyed being able to celebrate that.”
