SAILING clubs will put on a show at the Clacton Sea and Beach Festival this summer.

Gunfleet Sailing Club and Clacton Sailing Club are set to stage a series of races to entertain the crowds at the festival.

They will take to the water on June 25 and 26, and are planning pursuit race and a catamaran race along the coast.

It will be the second sea and beach festival in Clacton after the event was launched by Tendring Council last year.

Council seafronts boss Nick Turner said: “It is great news that these two sailing clubs are taking part in the festival and I am sure their members will enjoy it along with all the crowds on the beach.

“We also have top kitesurfing, windsurfing and paddle boarding championships lined-up and there should be something for everyone. It will be a spectacular two days.”

As well as the sailing club displays, world-class competitors will hit the Clacton coast for windsurfing and paddle boarding competitions.

It is hoped boat trips will be run again this year too, while the festival will also include music, entertainment and a beach party for visitors on dry land.

The event will stretch from Clacton Pier to Martello Beach.

Council events boss Mick Skeels says the festival should bring visitors flocking to the area and boost the local economy.

He added: “This is the second year and we hope that we can top the 50,000 that turned out on the first day last summer.”
