MOUNDS of soil and bricks have been found dumped in the road in three different incidents of fly-tipping – all linked to the same source.

The first heap of hard core and soil had been left covering most of the road in The Green, just of Rush Green Road in Clacton.

It was discovered by drivers struggling to get around the blockage.

Complaints poured into Tendring Council at about 4.50pm on Tuesday and workers were sent out to clear the road.

On Wednesday morning a similar mountain of debris was spotted in a lay-by on the A133 bypass near Clacton.

Later the same day a third incident of fly-tipping was discovered in a lay-by near Martins Farm in Colchester Road, St Osyth.

Council officers visited all three sites and believe each mound came from the same place.

Michael Talbot, council environment boss, said: “We would ask anyone who has had some work done at their home or in their garden in the last day or so to contact us if they believe the waste may have come from there.

“We would also like to hear from anyone who may have seen a vehicle in any of the areas mentioned over the time period and it may have looked suspicious.”

The council is investigating and if it finds enough evidence to identify the fly-tipping culprits they will be hit with a cash penalty or be prosecuted. The maximum fine is £50,000.

Mr Talbot added: “I should add that the cost of clearing all this up will be picked up by Tendring Council and therefore it will come out of the public purse.”

All residents having work done are advised to ask contractors whether they are a registered waste carrier and should ask for their waste carrier number.

It is possible to check if they are registered by calling the Environment Agency on 08708 506506.
