PLANS have been submitted to rebuild a house destroyed by a gas explosion in Clacton.

The 1960s council house in Cloes Lane was destroyed following a huge blast that rocked Clacton on February 5 last year.

An investigation into the blast found there had been a fault with a valve on a gas cylinder at 201 Cloes Lane.

Ten people were left injured and a total of 24 homes were affected.

The other half of the semi-detached building also had to be pulled down.

Paul Honeywood, Tendring Council’s cabinet member for housing, said plans had been submitted to rebuild the house, but added the owners of the other half of the semi-detached buildings were not yet in a position to rebuild.

“The vacant site was a permanent reminder of a terrible incident and rebuilding the house will draw a line under it,” he said.

“This will also bring a house back into the council’s housing stock.”
