ONE of the county’s most successful football clubs for people with learning disabilities is looking for new recruits in Clacton.

The Healthy 4 Life football project, which has nine teams across Clacton, Colchester and Witham, is run by local community healthcare provider Anglian Community Enterprise (ACE).

The Clacton A team, formed ten years ago, has won the Essex Soccability Premiership three times in the past four years.

The project provides adults with learning disabilities the opportunity to play football and enjoy the social aspect of the game.

Carolyn Rogers, ACE occupational therapist, has been involved since the beginning of the project.

She said: “We’ve been awarded Charter Standard status by the Football Association, reached the southern final of the national FA Disability Cup and some of our players have featured on a DVD promoting the game to people with learning disabilities.

“Our Clacton team has been particularly successful over the years but we now need some reinforcements so I would encourage anyone who can make their way to Vista Road sports ground, where we play and train, to give me a call.

“We’re not necessarily looking for hugely talented players, simply people who are 18 or over with a learning disability and a love of football.”
