A PLANNING inspector has backed Tendring Council’s decision to refuse plans for four new homes on land at a poultry farm in Little Clacton.

The scheme for the properties, garaging and parking at Torcross Poultry Farm in Harwich Road was rejected by the district council in September last year.

The council was against the application as it felt the development of a local green gap would harm the character and appearance of the area, but the developer said the plans were an opportunity to get away from the smell, noise and transport issues with a large number of vehicle movements often associated with poultry units.

Inspector Nigel Burrows said: “Weighing all the relevant considerations I conclude that the adverse environmental impact of the scheme significantly and demonstrably outweighs the considerations in favour of the proposal.

“Overall I find that it constitutes an unsustainable form of development and I have therefore concluded that the appeal must fail.”
