A RESIDENTS’ association is set to clamp down on speeding motorists on their Clacton estate.

Bockings Elm Residents’ Association has set up a voluntary speed watch group, thanks to a £2,100 grant from Essex County Council’s Community Initiative Fund.

The project was mooted following a consultation held with residents last year.

People living in the area called for more to be done to tackle speeding.

Former ward councillor Siggy Challinor helped to apply for the grant for the speed gun.

She said: “We are pleased to announce the purchase of a speed measuring device and the necessary signage, which is available now for volunteers speed watch patrols for residents of Bockings Elm.”

The group’s patrols are due to start on July 22.

County council cabinet member Roger Hirst said: “The Community Initiative Fund is an excellent example of how Essex County Council is supporting communities to help themselves.

“By increasing the opportunities for local residents, community groups and volunteers individually to shape their local facilities and undertake new ventures, we will see them make Essex and even better place to live and work than it is today.”
