PUPILS and teachers joined forces to raise money for charity in a huge school arts showcase.

More than 200 staff, pupils and visiting former students from Clacton County High School took to the stage for a special summer fundraiser.

It was standing room only as a packed crowd watched 26 performances, which included song, dance, drama and comedy acts.

Staff, including principal Jeff Brindle, also made a special appearance with a group dance.

The one-off County High arts festival raised more than £2,000 for Cancer Research.

The total was boosted by a silent auction, which gave members of the audience the chance to bid on artwork created by talented teachers and pupils.

School spokesman Simon Kedge said: “The conception of the show struck a chord with students and the initial response from acts wanting to perform was stunning. Many of them had to audition in advance to secure an opportunity to perform, and there were countless highlights during the evening.”

Year 11 pupil Shania Thompson produced a memorable performance of a poignant monologue by English teacher Serena Locksmith, capturing the thoughts and feelings of Relay for Life Team members as they reflect on their motivations and those suffering from, and lost to, cancer.
