A DRIVER has been slammed after taking a car onto Walton beach for a seafront joyride.

The silver car was spotted speeding across the sand, just to the right of the pier, on Friday at about 6.30pm.

It was reported to police and officers are investigating.

Community support officer Paul Brassey used Twitter to say the car had been “driving erratically”.

The behaviour has been criticised by police and town officials.

Chief Inspector Russ Cole said: “We cannot condone this in any way. Apart fromanything else, the sand is very soft there.

“In this instance, it is also antisocial behaviour which could ruin our beach for others, as well as being very dangerous.

“We need to discourage people from doing anything like this, especially as the summer season approaches and our seafronts start to fill up.”

Jack Robertson, Mayor for Frinton and Walton, said it was illegal to take cars on to that area of the beach.

Anyone with information should call police on 101.
