OUSTED Tendring Council leader Mick Page has called on the authority’s next leader to put political differences aside to continue his plan to regenerate Jaywick.

Tendring Council wants to build new council homes as a catalyst for the regeneration in Brooklands.

Former Tory district council boss Mr Page, who lost his seat at the local elections, had been working with Essex County Council on a blueprint to regenerate Jaywick with new council homes.

“The regeneration of Jaywick is too important for party politics to get in the way,” he said.

“As far as I am concerned, I have put everything into place to make sure that things happen.

“We have got a lot of the bits of land now.

“But it will be up to the new council to take it forward – and I would appeal to those councillors to follow my plan.”

He added: “I kept my promise to the people of Jaywick – everything is in place.

“I had also been working with County Hall on plans for the roads and, as a county councillor, I will continue to work on this.”

County Hall has already promised £5million to help improve 45 roads in Jaywick over the next two years.

The district council hopes central Government and the county council will contribute towards its own housing scheme, which could see hundreds of properties built on land off Lotus Way.

Mr Page also planned to ensure the new homes go to Jaywick residents first.
