JUNIOR wardens did their bit for the community by filling bags full of rubbish during a Jaywick beach clean.

Youngsters from Frobisher Primary and Nursery School, in Jaywick, took to the beach to clear 30kg of litter.

Year Six pupils at the school are signed up to the Junior Warden programme, helping Tendring Council look after the environment and getting involved in the area.

Pupils learned about the seafront by talking to members of the Jaywick Local History Society. They also visited Lempen Puppet Theatre Company to see a production aimed at promoting the protection of marine life.

Tendring Council communications boss Nigel Brown said: “Last year was a bit of a pilot and it all went well, so it was decided to continue the initiative with the children.

“They are showing a keen interest in their environment, as seen by their efforts to carry out the litter pick along with staff from Tendring Council.”
