CLACTON’S Rotary Clubs have teamed up to raise money for an internationally coordinated effort to support victims of the Nepal earthquake.

More than 5,000 people are thought to have died as a magnitude-7.8 earthquake hit the country on Saturday.

Mike Bareham, spokesman for Clacton Rotary Club, said the branch had teamed up with the Rotary Club of Clacton Jubilee for a fundraising effort.

He said: “Members of both clubs will be making street collections on Friday and Sunday at Morrison’s Little Clacton and B&M, Waterglade on Friday and Saturday.

“All funds raised will go to the Rotary sponsored ShelterBox organisation that delivers the essentials people need to rebuild their lives in the aftermath of such a disaster.

“ShelterBox aid is tailored to a disaster, but typically includes a disaster relief tent for a family, thermal blankets and groundsheets, water storage and purification equipment, solar lamps, cooking utensils, a basic tool kit, mosquito nets and children’s activity pack.”

Donations can be sent to The Rotary Club of Clacton-on-Sea, 1 Park Square West, Jaywick, CO15 2NS, marking the envelope Nepal Appeal.

Cheques should be made payable to the Rotary Club of Clactonon- Sea.
