WORK on a controversial £1.2million visitor centre at Walton’s historic Naze is set to start next month.

Construction of Essex Wildlife Trust’s Naze Education and Visitor Centre will begin in May.

Planning permission was approved by Tendring Council in 2013 following a £1.14million grant from the Government’s Coastal Communities Fund.

Critics were furious after calling for the beauty spot to remain untouched.

Essex Wildlife Trust says the centre could be open to visitors early in 2016.

Boss John Hall said the “compact low building” was designed to not detract from the Naze Tower and to fit in with the surrounding environment”.
