A POPULAR community fun run has been axed after almost 30 years.

Hundreds of runners, from experienced athletes to people in fancy dress, pound through the streets during the annual Frinton Fun Run.

This would have been the event’s 29th year, but is has now been cancelled.

It is organised by Tendring Technology College but the school has been forced to scrap the event so teachers can concentrate on preparing pupils for their exams.

Principal Caroline Haynes said: “We decided our whole focus has to be on supporting the children through the ever-changing exams.

“This is an incredibly challenging time because the exams have suddenly changed. The fun run was a fantastic community event, but we haven’t got the capacity to do that this year."
