AN event showcasing traditional and alternative healthcare has been hailed a success.

Belly dancing, street dance, and a fitness boot camp were just some of the attractions at Clacton’s Community Information Centre.

The health and wellbeing showcase was staged by Community Voluntary Services Tendring (CVST).

There were demonstrations by Brightlingsea Belly Dancers, first aiders, the Ignite dance company and Action For Life, which is aimed at the over-50s.

Visitors could also try free reiki, yoga and relaxation therapies, and even get a health check.

CVST chief officer Sharon Alexander said the event had attracted more than 250 people.

“It was fantastic – it was buzzing and vibrant,” she said.

“We received feedback that it was an excellent event and very well organised.

“Everyone who came said they enjoyed it and weren’t aware of the range of services available.”

The fire service handed out almost 40 smoke alarms.

Other organisations included Essex Carers Support, the Samaritans and Tendring Enterprise Studio, whose pupils showed off their homegrown organic fruit and veg boxes.

There was even a bike that pumped out more fruit smoothies the harder you pedalled.

Mrs Alexander added: “All of this was to open the eyes of local residents to what is available on their own doorstep.”
