A MUM has called for dogs to be banned from some of Clacton’s new beaches after her son was hurt by a puppy.
The three-year-old was playing on West Beach when the dog – which was not a lead – tried to get hold of his ball.
Mum Sarah Edwards, who owns a beach hut nearby, said her son suffered minor cuts to his face.
“The owner was extremely apologetic and we completely appreciate that this was playfulness, not an attack or display of aggression,” she said.
“However, I can't help but think this was a lucky escape, especially with the scratches so close to his eye. We frequent our beach hut often and have witnessed many close shaves with dogs who are not on leads, not to mention the ongoing problem of dogs’ mess.
“I do wonder how appropriate it is to allow dogs off their leads where so many children play.”
