A BID to have tables and chairs spilling out on to the pavement of Frinton’s famous Connaught Avenue for bakery customers has been slammed by critics.

Chain bakery Greggs has unveiled plans for an eating area outside its Frinton store.

The company wants to put tables and chairs outside the shop, with barriers around them.

It would stick out by two metres from the shop front, but the plan has been criticised by town councillors who do not want the pavement taken over by seating.

Frinton councillor Vanda Watling said: “These can only be to the detriment of shoppers and walkers and I believe we should avoid them at all costs. It would also establish a very dangerous precedent where we could be left with very little pavement to walk on.”
