DEVELOPERS are set to unveil plans for hundreds of new homes in Walton to the public.

Taylor Wimpey wants to build 250 new homes on the back part of the former Martello Caravan Park.

The site, off Kirby road, closed as a holiday park on December 31, and is now seen as key to the regeneration of Walton.

Supermarkets look set to be created at the front of the site, but the rear section is earmarked for homes.

Taylor Wimpey is almost ready to submit a full planning application for the site, which would also include some affordable housing and a public open space.

But first the company is holding a public consultation. Bosses say feedback will help fine-tune the proposals before they are formally submitted.

Spokesman Chris Allison said: “We are confident that this scheme will provide an attractive and sustainable development of high-quality homes to meet a range of requirements – including affordable properties for local people in housing need – in accordance with Tendring District Council’s aspirations for the site.

“Anyone who comes along to the public exhibition will be able to speak to members of our project team to find out more about our proposals and provide their feedback to help us develop and refine the emerging scheme.”

The huge 20-acre site is earmarked for housing in Tendring Council’s proposed Local Plan.

The consultation will take place at Walton and Frinton Yacht Club, in Mill Lane, on Thursday from 3pm-8pm.
