THEATRE lovers can see a unique production of a Shakespeare classic in Frinton this summer.

The Merry Wives of Windsor, first performed in 1602, comes to the coast in June.

It is being staged by MT Productions, which has run Frinton Summer Theatre for the past two years.

Professional actors – including ’Allo ’Allo! star John D Collins – will be joined on the stage by local performers.

In a unique twist, the play will be split into sections that will be performed at different venues.

The team hopes to start in St Mary’s Church garden, before heading to Frinton Free Church and finally the Greensward for the final act in the open air at dusk.

Tendring Council culture boss Mark Platt said: “We like to offer free shows over the summer months and when MT Productions approached us following the success of their 2014 Frinton Summer Theatre anniversary season, we couldn’t refuse.

“It is such a different idea and we are sure it will be thoroughly enjoyable.”

MT Productions’ Matthew Townshend said the company hoped to offer something new and exciting.

“The concept of open-air theatre has really taken off, so we thought we’d take the idea and build on it, creating something for all the family,” he said.

The production – on June 6 and 7 – replaces Theatre on the Greensward, which has been held in Frinton for the past few years.

Local theatre groups, schools and members of the public will have the chance to take part, and details of how to get involved will be announced soon.
