BLUEPRINTS have been submitted for up to 165 homes and a medical facility in Little Clacton.

Outline plans have been submitted to Tendring Council for permission to build the homes on farmland between Swain’s Farm and Amerells Farm, off The Street.

The development would include 131 houses and 24 flats over 6.5 hectares. There would also be ten almshouses that would be jointly managed as part of a trust with the parish council.

Jonathan Reubin, agent for the family behind the development, claimed the proposals would help bind the village together.

He said: “Because the applicants intend to develop the almshouses and medical facility in addition to the private dwellings, there will be common areas to manage so they intend to set up a management company to cover these and the open spaces.

“The applicants see their application asameans of consolidating the village of Little Clacton while maintaining its identity and separateness from Clacton.”

But one lifelong villager has already objected, saying: “This is not needed in the small village of Little Clacton as it will create extra traffic, which is already a big problem.

An Indian restaurant has recently been declined due to congestion, so I feel 165 homes will cause major congestion and big problems.”

Tendring Council is expected to rule on the plans by May 8.
