COASTAL communities minister Penny Mordaunt has called for “ambitious” plans to regenerate the most deprived ward in the country.

Ms Mordaunt visited Jaywick’s Brooklands area after discussing plans for its regeneration with council bosses.

Plans to build hundreds of new homes in a bid to lift Brooklands of deprivation go on show at an exhibition at the Brooklands Resource Centre on Wednesday at 2pm.

Ms Mordaunt has called on Tendring Council to come up with an “ambitious” blueprint for regeneration, but said that plans are needed for jobs alongside housing.

“Housing is one thing – and that is great, but we need a plan that is going to create jobs and enable us and others to invest in a skills base here,” she said.

“My message to them today is to be quite ambitious about that.”

Ms Mordaunt did not directly answer questions about whether there would be funding from central Government, but said money could be made available from the South East Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), which distributes regional growth funding.
