THOUSANDS of pounds are being spent in the Tendring district to help residents badly affected by flooding.

The Government initially gave financial assistance following the severe floods in December 2013 and now the scheme is being extended.

It is now available for people affected before December 2013 and anyone affected in the 2013/14 financial year.

Paul Honeywood, Tendring Council’s cabinet member for housing, benefits and revenues, said: “So far, more than £18,000 has been spent on flood prevention measures in the Tendring area, which has provided schemes to protect four houses.

“A further scheme has been approved that will protect five houses and another four schemes are awaiting final approval to go ahead. If these all proceed, it will bring the total amount spent in the district to almost £60,000.”
